If the Islanders had the support in Puerto Rico they’d be able to raise the money they need to make the jump to the MLS. Although soccer is growing in Puerto Rico (which is a huge market with 4million US citizens and the Caribbean’s largest economy), it is nowhere near popular enough to get the investors and sponsors it would need. The Islanders are a great little team and have achieved a lot with their low budget and support. They field like 7 or 8 Internationals from the top Caribbean teams (Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic) and combines them with American players and a great coach and always find glory in the CCL. Once and again they prove themselves as the best non-Mexican club of the CONCACAF and should play in the MLS.
